Faithful Stewards | Titus O'Bryant

 • Titus O'Bryant • Series: A Charge to Keep

Salvation is a free, unconditional gift. We receive that gift through faith in the work that God already completed in Jesus Christ—his life, death, and resurrection. This gift can’t be taken away or lost and is all about God’s work for us. The Scriptures also teach that we can receive rewards for our faithfulness with the good gifts and opportunities God gives us in life. These rewards can be won or lost and are conditional—based on our faithfulness and good works. The second story Jesus tells in Matthew 25 encourages us to be faithful stewards of the resources, gifts, and opportunities God entrusts to us. How can we live a life worthy of rich rewards in eternity? DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Read Jesus’ story in Matthew 25:14-30. What are your first three observations about this passage? How do you feel after reading this story from Jesus? 2. What do you notice about the “master” and his actions, words, and characteristics in this story? 3. What may have motivated the servant who buried his silver in the ground to take that action? What characteristics may have empowered the other two servants to skillfully earn more with their silver? 4. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 5. In the Scriptures, crowns are symbols of authority and reward. How are different crowns identified and what is required to receive them in the following passages: a. James 1:12, Revelation 2:10 b.1 Corinthians 9:24-25 c. 1 Peter 5:1-4 d.2 Timothy 4:6-8 e. 1 Thessalonians 2:19, Philippians 4:1 f. While these crowns are identified, it’s possible other crowns or rewards will also be won. What is the significance of what happens to these rewards in Revelation 4:10-11? 6. Take a few moments and quietly consider what God, our Master, has entrusted to you. Make a short list of these resources, gifts, and realities. We all want to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” How could you steward your assets and opportunities with greater faithfulness and effectiveness?
