A Song for When All is Right with the World | Titus O'Bryant

 • Titus O'Bryant • Series: Roadtrip Mixtape

The first song in the Book of Psalms provides an orientation to the entire book and teaches us what life looks like when everything works properly. However, we quickly learn (and many Psalms remind us) that life doesn’t always progress according to plan. This first song also gives us a new perspective to view all of life—the successes along with the disappointments—in vibrant colors we never could imagine on our own. Let’s hit the road together with the Psalms. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Read through Psalm 1 where two different paths or two different categories of people are described. Try at least two translations (maybe in the New Living Translation and New American Standard Bible). What do you observe about this contrast? 2. What do you imagine is the value of finding this Psalm at the beginning of the book? 3. What observations can you make or conclusions could you draw from the progression marked by the description of “the wicked” in verse 1? 4. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 5. What are some practical ways you could develop a “root system” to construct a life like the tree described in verse 3? 6. Here’s an activity: Take some time to imagine or, better yet, observe a tree. Consider the parts: roots, trunk, branches, leaves, blossoms, fruit, or seeds and consider its lifecycle. How can your life of trusting God be like the life of this tree? 7. Who could you invite to participate in the life God gives or this series at LifePoint? Pray for them and consider one action to invite them to join you at LifePoint or introduce them to Jesus.
