Crying Out | Titus O'Bryant
• Titus O'Bryant • Series: The Gospel of Job
When life falls apart, how can we navigate through our pain without falling apart ourselves? Job begins to cry out to God and his friends in chapter 3. His brutal honesty and deep vulnerability can be shocking but also help us faithfully endure our own challenges. Let's explore how to be faithful with the painful parts of our lives. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Read Job’s first speech in chapter 3. What do you observe about Job’s speech, what do you find difficult to digest, what resonates with you? 2. When Job begins to speak, he releases deep emotions by cursing the day he was born in chapter 3. Have you ever spoken to God the way that Job did? What hold you back from that or what were those conversations with God like? 3. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 4. Job wasn’t only talking with God in chapter 3, he was also presenting himself and his true feelings to his friends. Does vulnerability come easily or with difficulty for you? When have you been vulnerable with someone else or experienced someone else being vulnerable? What effect can vulnerability have on your relationship with other people and with God. 5. Why is presenting our pain, our complaints, and our honest feelings to God a faithful action that expresses our trust in him? How could you grow in this quality? Is there any deep pain or difficult emotions you need to process with God through prayer?
