Do our actions really matter if nothing we do can cause God to love us any more or less? Living under the rule of God’s grace is a call to living each day in victory over the power of sin. Romans 6 provides instructions for receiving grace to follow Jesus faithfully in every aspect of life. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. If it is true that “nothing you ever do can make God love you any more or less,” what questions begin to develop in your mind? Restate Paul’s question Romans 6:1 in your own words. 2. Read through Romans 6:1-14. How do these verses develop and emphasize the idea that believers have been united with Jesus? 3. What are some of the implications of union with Jesus described in this passage? What are some of the truths or realities we are instructed to “know” and what are we encouraged to do based on these truths? 4. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 5. Is there a particular temptation you have been facing or sinful thoughts, actions, or words you would like to overcome? a. What might it look like for you to consider yourself “dead to the power” of that sin but “alive to God” (Romans 6:11)? b. How does God’s grace create freedom for you to give yourself completely to God and resist sinful desires (Romans 6:12-14)? c. What are some practical ways you can choose the freedom and victory that come from God’s grace?
