Jesus Gave More Than He Took
• Ross Albers • Series: Leading from the High Road
Giving more than you take is at the core of taking the high road. When you give more than you take, you exemplify the very nature of Jesus. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Jesus washed his disciples' feet, an act of humble service. Read John 13:1-17. How does this example challenge our understanding of leadership and service? How can we apply this to our daily lives? 2. In Matthew 20:28, Jesus says, "...the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." What does it mean to give your life as a ransom? How does Jesus’s sacrifice inspire us to give of ourselves to others? 3. Read Mark 10:45. How does this passage exemplify Jesus giving more than he took? What does it mean for us to follow Jesus’s example of servant leadership in our relationships and communities? 4. Consider Philippians 2:5-8, which describes Jesus humbling himself to the point of death on a cross. How does this passage illustrate Jesus’s willingness to give up everything? How can we cultivate this attitude of humility and selflessness? 5. In John 15:13, Jesus says, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." How does Jesus’s ultimate sacrifice demonstrate the greatest act of giving? How can we show a similar kind of love to those around us? 6. Think about times when Jesus healed people, fed the hungry, and comforted the afflicted. Read Matthew 9:35-36. How did Jesus consistently give of himself to meet the needs of others? What are some practical ways we can follow Jesus's example of meeting the needs of people around us?
