Hometown Hurdles: Unmasking the Unbelief in Our Hearts | Jason Fullen
• Jason Fullen • Series: Mark's Gospel: The Way to Overcome with Jesus
In Mark 6, Jesus returns to His hometown of Nazareth, only to be met with disbelief and rejection by His fellow Nazarites. His former neighbors were amazed by His knowledge, but nonetheless dismiss Him and His message. Conversely, Jesus marvels at their unbelief, which significantly hinders His kingdom work among them. Today we explore our roles in the kingdom mission and the challenges our own unbelief presents. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. What does it look like to actively choose to believe God about who you are, even in the face of doubt or uncertainty? Give examples. 2. How does our understanding of our identity in Christ relate to our capacity to believe God's promises? What are some false identities that limit our faith? Why do false identities lead us to unbelief? 3. In what ways do false agreements and unbelief limit the kingdom of God from advancing in our lives, our communities, and the world? 4. How does recognizing the power of God to overcome sin and transform lives impact our level of belief? What are some specific areas in your life where you need to reject lies and believe God’s truths about forgiveness, hope and identity? 5. What are some practical steps we can take to overcome unbelief in our own lives? How can we create a community that fosters faith and challenges unbelief? 6. As we live from our true identity as Christ-followers, what are the possibilities that become readily available to us? Stronger faith? Real life-change? Healing? Freedom? How might our embracing of these truths spread to fellow believers and unbelievers?
