How Will You Be Overcome? | Titus O'Bryant
• Titus O'Bryant • Series: Mark's Gospel: The Way to Overcome with Jesus
Who will overcome you? Who or what has overcome you, your mind, your emotion, your perspective—it’s either Jesus or something or someone else. Who or what has the greatest influence your life? What dominates your thoughts, outlook, feelings? Your pain or bad experience, desire for pleasure, pursuit of your own self-expression or interest, identification with a cause or platform or party or candidate—what are you giving yourself over to, to what or whom are you ceding the prime real estate of your soul and mind and inner life? Where do you give your allegiance? DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Read Mark 6:14-29. What are your first impressions? What connection might this account have with the stories that came before (Jesus’ teaching on the lake, calming the storm, casting out demons, healing disease, resurrecting the dead, facing unbelief, and sending out disciples)? 2. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 3. How have different powerful impulses and desires, guiding philosophies or powers, experiences or aims laid a claim to your life? 4. When you remember that Jesus holds all power and authority, how do you feel and how does that fact create an opportunity to reinterpret the events of your life? 5. How could you take a step toward making love your highest law? Is there someone you could reach out to this week, someone to forgive, a conversation to initiate, an encouragement to offer, or some other tangible action of love you could take? 6. How could you take a step toward spending time with Jesus this week…a practice of worship, a personal discipline, a relationship to cultivate, or some other way to spend time with Jesus? (You can even download the YouVersion Bible app and set up notifications to spend time with Jesus daily).
