God Chooses Abram | Patrick Boyd

 • Patrick Boyd • Series: Abraham & Sarah: A Journey of Faith

In the aftermath of the Babel account, God chose one particular family to bring blessing to the whole earth. In this first sermon in our new series, we’ll explore two of the first examples of a life of faith. Abraham and Sarah believed God’s promise, but (like us) their faith was often weak and their lives full of missteps. They discovered their failures were never enough to overcome God’s grace and promise. Through their story, we’ll discover how we can trust God to keep his promises. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Why do you think context is so important in understanding biblical stories? Can you share an example from your life where understanding context changed your perspective on a situation? 2. Abram showed both faith and partial obedience to God. What does it mean to you to follow God’s promises? How can we encourage one another in our families to trust God more fully? 3. Abram had missteps along his journey, but God’s grace remained. How do we deal with mistakes in our own lives, and how can we foster an environment in our families where we learn from those mistakes rather than hide them? 4. As Jesus followers, we play a role in the promise God gave to Abram that all the families of the earth would be blessed through him. What are some practical ways we can bless others in our communities today? How can different generations work together to share Christ's love to the world? 5. We are living in the time between Jesus' resurrection and His return. How does this understanding shape the way we live out our faith daily? How can we support each other in taking meaningful next steps in our faith journeys?
