The Rewards of Faithfulness | Luis Villafania

â€¢ Luis Villafania â€¢ Series: Abraham & Sarah: A Journey of Faith

Abraham's failure to trust in God leads to deception with Abimelech. Twenty-five years later, Abraham repeats the same mistake he made in chapter 12. He falls again into deception and failure, which shows believers how easily it is to slip back into sinful habits. However, God is faithful even when we are not. God's faithfulness rescues them from Abimelech and fulfills His promise by giving Abraham and Sarah a son, Isaac. God demonstrates His grace and faithfulness to Hagar and Ishmael because of His love toward Abraham. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Read Genesis 20:1-11 Think about a difficult situation in which fear or lack of trusting God led you to a course of action that did not honor God. 2. What can you discern on why God struck Abimelech with sickness? How do you think Abraham felt after Abimelech rebuked him? 3. How does the character of Abimelech influence you to fear God? What lessons did you learn? 4. How did Abraham's sin affect Sarah? Think about a scenario in which your sin affected your loved ones. 5 . Why do you think Sarah reacted so harshly to Ishmael's treatment of Isaac? (see Genesis 21:9-10) 6. How can you know if your effort for God stems from God's power or the flesh? Could you explain why Law and Grace cannot live together?
