Two Funerals and a Wedding | Titus O'Bryant
• Titus O'Bryant • Series: Abraham & Sarah: A Journey of Faith
As you try to follow Jesus, when have you hit a speed bump of confusion and struggled to move forward? Abraham and Sarah’s stories speed along to conclusion, while creating some confusing obstacles—death, a search for a bride, and an unfulfilled promise. By examining Abraham’s example of faith, we can learn to live faithfully even when feeling confused. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: 1. Read the account of finding Rebekah to become Isaac’s (Abraham and Sarah’s son) wife from Genesis 24:1-23. If you can, read the longer narrative including Sarah and Abraham’s respective deaths from Genesis 23:1-25:11. 2. How do you think Abraham felt when his wife Sarah passed away causing him to purchase a small plot of land for her burial when God had promised Abraham possession of a large area of land that he would never actually hold? 3. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 4. When have you felt confused or lost when searching or pursuing faith or following Jesus? What did Abraham’s servant depend on to guide him in finding a bride for Abraham’s son Isaac (hint: take a look at Genesis 24:14 and 27)? How could depending on this same quality change your perspective when you feel confused or lost or searching? 5. When you reflect on the life of Abraham and Sarah, what are some of the principles, truths, or questions that float to the top of your mind? Consult a summary of Abraham and Sarah's life from Hebrews 11:8-19. 6. Choose one of three questions to explore in your life: a. Is there a specific action or step of faith God may be calling you to take? b. How could you pass your faith on to someone else? c. Do you need to create time and space to mourn a loss or to celebrate a victory?
