Twenty-Four Hours | Titus O'Bryant
• Titus O'Bryant • Series: Abraham & Sarah: A Journey of Faith
What’s wrong with this world and how does God call us to interact with a culture in rebellion against him? After Abraham served God himself and two angels a meal, he asked God to extend mercy on flagrantly wicked people. Although God rescued Abraham’s family members, Abraham watched cities burn in terrible judgment, within twenty-four hours. Discerning how to be engaged with a culture that is against God has always been challenging for God’s people. Together, we look for wisdom by learning from God’s judgment and his mercy. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Read Genesis 18:16-33 and the extended passage including chapter 19 if possible. How do you feel after reading this story? 2. What can you discern about God’s character from the way he and Abraham talk with one another in Genesis 18:16-33? What do you discern about God’s character from chapter 19? How could these observations influence your relationship with God? 3. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 4. How have you experienced or observed mercy and/or judgment? 5. How does trusting God to execute judgment create and expand the potential for true forgiveness? Is there a situation in your life where you need to trust God to bring about his justice? Why don’t you talk with God about that. 6. Who are some individuals or groups of people that you could offer the gift of mercy? What might that look like? Are there any ways you could practice hospitality and mercy the way that Abraham did?
