Our Father's Will | Titus O'Bryant

 • Titus O'Bryant • Series: The Lord's Prayer

What if the biggest change God makes in our world when we pray is the change that he makes in us? This weekend we’re offering up a beautiful but also a daring prayer for God’s will to be done on earth just like it is in heaven. Sometimes we wonder whether everything that happens in life is a result of God’s will, or we struggle between the life we expected and the life we’ve experienced. Maybe part of the point of prayer is not forcing God’s will to match up with mine but shaping my desires to fit what he wants. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. How is God’s will accomplished in heaven? How would life be different on earth if God’s will were carried out in the same way? What makes it difficult or complicated for us to carry out and experience God’s will on earth? 2. Read Matthew 26:36-46, what do you observe about Jesus’ relationship with his Father and what can you discern about our experience of God’s will in our lives? 3. What did you hear this weekend that inspired you, challenged you, or sparked disagreement or further consideration? 4. How would you describe the distinction between what God “wants” to happen and what God “wills” to happen? How can this be confusing, why does it matter, and how have you experienced this reality? 5. What are some practical strategies and actions you could use for discerning God’s will in your life? 6. What are you attached to that makes it difficult to want the will of God more than anything else (a past experience, a future hope, a present reality/struggle/success)? How could you pray “indifferently;” that is, wanting God’s will more than you want anything else?
